The Brooklyn Adult Learning Center is located in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section. Housed in the historic former Girls High, today it offers low-cost practical nurse training to all who can pass the P-NAT.

Brooklyn Adult Learning Center

Bed-Stuy's best kept secret: an all-inclusive practical nurse course for $2,500.

Located in the former Girls' High School, the Brooklyn Adult Learning Center is located on Nostrand Avenue in Bed-Stuy. Run by the City of New York, theirs is one of the four practical nurse programs in Brooklyn with state approval. The year long program only costs $2,500 - which covers tuition, books, uniforms and testing fees.

Entrance into the practical nurse program is by competitive examination and interview. After sitting the P-NAT (Pre-Nursing Assessment Test), the top scorers receive an invitation to a computer based test. Once the testing portion is over, the top scorers must complete an interview. After interviewing, qualified candidates receive a start date.

Financial aid is available to those who qualify. The program lasts approximately 52 weeks.

All applicants must be 21+ years of age and legally able to work in the United States. All accepted candidates must provide proof of American citizenship (or a green card with continuous work status), a high school diploma (or GED certificate), and Proof of NYC residency. Prospective LPN students must also supply a New York State Driver’s License or a New York State Non-Driver’s ID.

All classes are taught at the physical school location. At the moment, Brooklyn Adult Learning Center does not provide online instruction.
